Sometimes things just get to me. This is one of those things. I really feel like my calling is to help you with your fitness and fat loss questions and needs. For the most part, I’ve been getting positive feedback on my efforts. Read the comment below and I need your honest opinion. Do you feel that the info I offer on the blog and in my program are helping you? Am I bombarding you with too much fluff or is there something there for you to work with? What would you say to this person? (If the entire image isn’t visible, just click on it.)
If you’ve never commented on my blog before, now’s the time. All you do is enter a comment. (Your email will NOT be displayed, only your name, which, by the way, you can put as ‘anonymous’ if you wish.) It may not display right away, so be patient, I have to moderate comments and I’ll put them all up: the good, bad and the ugly.
I really need to know how YOU feel about this. Thank you for your support and constructive criticism. My goal is to help you the best way I can and if I’m not doing that, I need to know that too.
I agree that your messages are a bit too frequent and all of them seem to just want to sell your product. You need to build relationships and give away more free information to get people to like you and want to buy from you. Just my two cents.
Hi Shawna,
I enjoy your e-mails. Keep on sending them to me. I always find something interesting regarding fitness and nutrition.
Information on the website is very informative and interesting. What is done with it is my decision but I appreciate receiving it. Keep up the great work.
I love your blog, Shawna! You don’t send it out too often, and the majority of what you post is either interesting or useful (or both) . . . the things I do not enjoy as much, I just don’t read – easy solution. Don’t read too much into that comment – you are doing a great job.
Hi Shawna,
I love reading your blog! Don’t take what this person says personally. I KNOW your commitment to fitness and helping people and I appreciate your dedication to all of us. Knowledge is power – some people would rather not know the truth or look at themselves up close.
Keep up the good work.
u can’t please everyone!! it’s just not possible!!
Shawna, when you help so many people, don’t let one person (who sounds like they have issues)deflate all the good you do. For being 47 and looking and feeling the way you do, it proofs all you do and say works. Keep up the great work as many of us take it as a gift. You will always get frustrated jelous people.
Hi Shawna,
Keep doing what you are doing! Your emails and info keep me going.
I am presently doing the Biggest Winner Calgary Outdoor contest as well as Joel’s Xtreme Fat loss program. Cam just finished Joel’s program and looks great, he is buffing up for High School. I am currently down 9 lbs and toning in
4 weeks. I am so inspired by your desire to help people and am seriously looking to transition from my current unhappy pharmacy career to health and fitness.
Well, clearly that e-mail was unnecessarily rude. I find some of your posts quite useful. I especially like the mini workouts. As a busy mom, I actually find most of the tips interesting and helpful.
Sadly there will always be someone who complains… Hopefully they were just having a bad day – sorry they vented on you!
When I go back to review your emails (which I often keep) you give away something useful for free with every email, whether it is a mini workout, nutrition info, a video clip on how to do an exercise correctly.
When I signed up for your mailing list, I was not signing up for marketing emails about a product (which I had already purchased), but to get additional helpful info. And that is what I am getting. Thanks Shawna
I suppose you could give some details about the product (in the first email) – maybe send out one that describes in detail what you would receive with purchase, but reassuring that there will not be a bunch of marketing emails afterwards
Of course, anyone who doesn’t want to read them can unsuscribe, block or click delete!!
As for the untoned abs… I invite the writer to come to bootcamp if you can – it really does make a difference (and is much easier to keep on going with company than it is to do it on your own) and you will feel lots better.
I love your program. I have done many programs-diet and exercise- and this by far has been the best. I am challenged every time I work out which I greatly appreciate. I enjoy receiving emails with new info that I can decide to use or not but at least I have the information to decide if I want to use it or not. I thank you for your fitness program.
Jenn, Thanks for your comments. I try to give as much free info as possible on my blog.
Thanks Karen, I’m glad that what I’ve sent is helpful to you. I try to keep info about my product less so I can focus on fitness and fat loss info more. If someone wants to know specifically about what’s in my product, they can read the sales page, email or ask on the blog. Thanks for your support!
I’ll try to keep those mini workouts coming! Thanks for letting me know what works for you!
Louise, You’re an inspiration. You’re walking the walk and leading your family by example. Good on you for saying good by to those 9 lbs. All the best and don’t settle for a career that you don’t have passion for.
I always find the information on the blog very interesting – and the notification emails let me know that there is something new coming (if I’m not interested in that particular subject, then I don’t have to look). I think what some people have to remember is that you are selling a product (and a kick-butt one at that!!) and that if they are not interested they should say just that – some people are all about the drama and you just have to put it behind you and move forward! You rock and we all know it!
Thank you Judie! BTW…I’ve been missing you! Come back to boot camp! Hope all is well with you and I’ll see you soon.
Thanks Brent. You and Linda are living examples of the message I’m trying to get out there.
Some of us enjoy the email and need the encouragement and motivation. Others, well maybe they just arent ready to get started yet and you are a reminder of that with the emails. Keep up the good work!!! Shrug it off to someone unhappy within….
Thanks, as always, Jolleen, for your support!
Don’t take this person’s comments to heart. She obviously is angry with something else in her life because there’s a polite way to do everything and she did not choose to do that. It’s true, you can’t please everyone with your blog and all they need to do is unsubscribe if they don’t like it…very simple. As far as her untoned abs, you are NOT responsible for that! Your workouts WORK, they are fabulous, they produce results! I wouldn’t continue to come for a year if I wasn’t 100% happy with your program and the amazing results I have had. It is CLEAR to everyone that knows you (even a little) that you are passionate about helping people!! Don’t let this person get to you, it’s truly their problem NOT yours, so don’t waste another thought on it 🙂
Appreciate the support Carol.
Thanks Terra! I love how you choose to live your passion in fitness, family and career. And, you look amazing as well.
Shawna, I always enjoy getting new updates on fitness and diet on your blog. It is well written and easy to understand. If this person doesn’t enjoy reading it she should simply unsubscribe. Keep up the great work.
Like many others have already said, I too, enjoy your emails, and find them most useful…you alway give something away in terms of information for free.(ex. mini workout, which was a great workout for busy people). And again, stuff that I do not find useful, I do not use. Pretty easy to decide what to do…you like it, you use it, you don’t, you delete it. Obviously the person who sent you that email, was someone who is not liking what they see in the mirror and wants someone to do all the work for him/her and will not take enough ambition to take some responsibilty to make the effort that is needed. This person finds it easier to blame someone else for their own short comings with getting fit or toned abs. Misery enjoys company and this persons misery is lonely and wanted your company. You have more positive comments so that should give you a clue that you are doing the right thing. You can not please everyone and there are always those people who are negative their entire lives and blame others for everything that goes wrong. In fact, you are giving this person way too much of your time and the spot light then what they are worth. Stay away from comments like that to make you second guess what you are doing. Your time is better spent being positive and doing things you enjoy then to be giving this even one more seond of your time. I mean, the 5 minutes it took me to write this email, I will never get back. But I thought it was worth the effort to try and make you feel better. Keep up the great work you do.
I shared your email with my daughter and some of her friends recently, they are 19-23 and in college. They will be 40 at some point… if they learn some things from you and KEEP it in the front of their minds they might not have the same issues some of us have had. Like misinformation, and Fitness for Men adjusted to “work” for us. This is for us and I need it!!! I have unsunscribed to all but you and one other so its not info overload and conflicting info. You do a great job, and I know my daughter and her frineds think so as well.
Hi Shawna,
There will always be negative people that take out their frustration on others. Don’t let one comment take away from the hundreds of positive comments and feedback that you have received.
Keep the uppdates coming. We appreciate them!
I really enjoy receiving your emails on health and fitness so keep them coming! They always keep me motivated and I love learning something new that will better my health. You have always been such a HUGE inspiration to me and I’m always so thankful that I met you! The last two years I’ve really been focused on living a healthier life and it all started when I used to do your fitness circuits at your house! Thank you for all your motivation and keep inspiring us all!
Shawna, it’s easy to say don’t take it personally but that is just not true. YOU do take it personally because you take a personal interest in how you can provide info and support to the people who need it. I’ve done your bootcamps and read the blogs that are pertinent for me. They are a constant reminder that you are there to help me be the healthy person I want to be. Thanks!
I agree with Brent, although I can’t use all the info. with my limitations, I just use what I can and always appreciate the info.
i love your blog , i love getting your e-mails and i usually keep them all to referance back to. if some ppl dont like getting them then there is a delte button or unsubscribe. its just an e-mail for crying out loud lol
I love to read you e-mail I don’t read some of them because I’m either away on a trip or i’m not feeling well but I do get to them… so don’t let some silly person get to you Pam
Hi Shawna, this comment was completely uncalled for and rude. I enjoy your emails very much, and it is up to the individual as to how they want to put the information to use. Please don’t stop sending them. Everyone has the ability to unsubscribe or ignore the emails they don’t want to reveiw if they like, which is what this person should have done instead of being rude. You are doing a great job with the information you forward, and as another person commented, I do reference back to previous emails you send out. Keep up the great work.
Shawna, it’s hard not to take comments like that personally. As others have alluded to, this person has something else going on and chose you to take it out on you.
Your commitment to fitness and the passion you have to help others is extraordinary. I’ve been doing your Bootcamps for almost 3 years. I appreciate everything that you represent and all that you do to help others on their fitness journey no matter what their level.
Is it not true that it’s only if you sign up that you receive the emails? If you feel bombarded then unsubscribe or delete. I often don’t have the opportunity to read through all the emails so I created a Fitness Folder and keep them there until I have the chance to read them.
Shawna, I do enjoy receiving your informative e-mails and find them very helpful. If that person did not like it she could have just unsubscribed. Maybe she just had a bad day. Keep up the good work girl !!!
Keep ’em coming! I am far too busy to read most emails but always read yours and people must realize that although you are on a mission you have to make a living as well… pretty naive to believe otherwise.
Hey Shawna,
Don’t let that negative comment bring you down. You are doing a great job! I find both the program & the info very beneficial. I absolutely enjoy coming to bootcamp and would highly recommend your program to anyone. The program is challenging & you are a great motivator! I am so happy I made the decision to join.
Thanks Leanne, love kicking your butt every day at camp!
If I can help as many peeps as possible and make a living too, that seems like a fair trade to me. Thanks for pointing that out Kathy!
Seems like a good plan to me Colleen, or that person could just ‘delete’ or unsubscribe…
Thanks Tammy!
It’s good to hear that my intentions are transparent. Yes, I do care about the issues I bring up. If I find out some info that I think will help, I don’t save it for a product, I get it out to you. Thanks for seeing that!
It’s been great kicking your butt for so long Tara!
Lisa, comments on the blog, like yours, have made my day. My intention is to help and I’m getting the message loud and clear that so far so good!
Shawna,
Keep up the fantastic work. The information you provide is of great value to those of us who chose to apply it as best we can. There is a reason that you are head and shoulders above most trainers whose path I have crossed in my soon to be 41 years (ugh!)…you are a caring and passionate person… about your work and the people whose butts you quick every day. Thanks! 🙂
From Anonymous:
I am shy about the “blog thing” but wanted to let you know what I think.
Im surprised at the email you received. I don’t understand why anyone would send that to you.
I find the information you send very helpful. There is a lot of information but there is no pressure to read
it at all or to read it immediately. Sometimes I have to save the information for later.
Keep up the good work.
Sounds like that lady was having a very bad day. It is the individuals choice to sign up for the online support, and if she’s not interested, to unsubscribe is easy. Sometimes it’s easier to lash out at others, rather than take responsibility for our life choices I guess.
I find it quite hard to form new healthier diet and fitness habits, and so I appreciate the email reminders as they keep steering me back on track.
hi shawna
I think that person is very rude and ungrateful toward you just ignore that person.
I find your mini- workouts very helpful. I don’t mind at all that you sent me e-mails i need all info i can get.
thanks
Hi Shawna. It’s clear to me that this person has no understanding of what you offer. For me, the information posted on your blog is the perfect complement to training with you at bootcamp, at home with your online book and blog videos, the evaluations you offer in your home, and the nutrition seminars that you organize with nutrition experts. You have taken your knowledge and passion for health and fitness and have packaged it so that women with a variety of fitness and life goals, and range of schedules, can benefit. I’ve found through my career and life in general that it is always those that are most critical, or have only negative thoughts to share, that speak the loudest and perhaps most often. The comments you’ve received today are a testament to the many women who feel fortunate to have been able use the many tools you provide, including your blog, on the path to better health and wellness. 🙂
Note to self: the mini workouts seem to be a hit, gotta get more up there for you gals!
