Sometimes things just get to me. This is one of those things. I really feel like my calling is to help you with your fitness and fat loss questions and needs. For the most part, I’ve been getting positive feedback on my efforts. Read the comment below and I need your honest opinion. Do you feel that the info I offer on the blog and in my program are helping you? Am I bombarding you with too much fluff or is there something there for you to work with? What would you say to this person? (If the entire image isn’t visible, just click on it.)
If you’ve never commented on my blog before, now’s the time. All you do is enter a comment. (Your email will NOT be displayed, only your name, which, by the way, you can put as ‘anonymous’ if you wish.) It may not display right away, so be patient, I have to moderate comments and I’ll put them all up: the good, bad and the ugly.
I really need to know how YOU feel about this. Thank you for your support and constructive criticism. My goal is to help you the best way I can and if I’m not doing that, I need to know that too.
I feel pretty overwhelmed with the comments on the blog here. Thanks Lisa and to all the other people that have supported me!
I have a lot of emails every day. In fact right now it looks like I have297 unopened emails. BUT…..I also have a Droid that I see my emails on. Am I feeling overwhelmed. No….I look forward to the personalized emails from you and as I click thelinks that allow me to follow through to suggested areas that I feel are important, I then save them and if I don’t get the time today, I will in the next day or so to view and enjoy what you have offered me. Thank you for all your hard work in helping us 40 plus women with issues that most fitness “Experts” do not take the time to address. Keep up the great work Shawna, you are an inspiration to me and many more.
I feel pretty honored with 297 unopened emails that mine make the cut!! Thanks Denice!
Anyone and everyone interested in their own well-being should be signing up to receive Shawna’s emails. They are informative, useful and inspiring. You can tell Shawna is truly interested in other people’s health and fitness goals, as she always shares her knowledge selflessly and with great enthusiasm. Anyone disappointed with her emails obviously doesn’t know a good thing when it’s staring them in the face. Myself, I can’t wait to get Shawna’s emails!
I love all the information you send me!! I have exercised for years and teach classes but I still enjoy reading what you send me. Please keep the emails coming, it is valuable information. I want to thank you the time and effort you put into helping people like me!!
Hey I understand how people can feel overwhelmed by receiving numerous emails everyday, but I look at yours this way. I signed up for this as a kick in the ass, get my butt off the couch and start working towards a healthy happier me. If I didn’t get any response from you after signing up, the program would not work because I would fail. How many people are out there and doing the program on their own with no support from “their trainer”? very few I would guess – unless I am totally in the dark about how busy women are and how easy it is to just say “no I don’t feel like it today”. I think it is great that you keep on sending new info and getting me motivated with how simple exercises, nutrition and a little time will make a difference in my life. I would chalk that rude email up to someone you just are not going to get through to and no one probably ever will. How many success stories compared to failures have you received? You are doing the right thing Shawna, and don’t let this person make you feel otherwise. Hope this helps you to continue to keep doing what you’re doing!!! You’ve got it right!
Personally, I love getting the emails. It is my personal reminder to “get out there and burn some steam.” You are an inspiration to all those women out there that want to get fit, be positive and change not only their physical but mental self.
Negative comments like the one you received are so disappointing. People can be so darn small about things,….if they don’t want the emails, then write a short note to say, “Thank You – but I will have to request that I be taken off the list.”
Take the comment with a “grain of salt”, obviously that person is not a happy person. One can only hope that perhaps they can tackle the next situation that they run into with more grace, pleasantness and positivity.
🙂
Yes Shawna,
I personally find the information on the website, on your blogs, e-mails and programs very beneficial, informative and instrumental regarding my overall fitness and nutrition daily.
No you are not bombarding me… We all make our own personal choices and decisions…….
I have had a lifestyle choice, responsibility and a daily commitment to myself and in doing so since 2006 & until the present I chose you and your expertise in health and fitness to assist me on my health and wellness journey as part of my personal team to accomplish my goals and objectives to self and health improvement.
Your personal passion resonates through your commitment to health and fitness and helping people and I appreciate your dedication to all of us.
Shawna, your expertise and valuable information is shared personally by you beyond the website and into our communities through the radio blogs, community, the free complimentary health and fitness magazines and articles, nutrition /fitness seminars and conferences, focus on fitness, boot camps and Female Fat Loss over Forty programs, etc. As I go back to review your emails (I keep on file). Shawna, you give away something useful for free with your emails, whether it is in the mini workouts, nutrition info, a video clip on how to do an exercise correctly. This has all afforded me to use whatever info I may need to use from or away my home.
The information shared from other clients on your blogs has also been very encouraging, inspirational to me as to what has worked(s) for them that I have added to or tried for adjustments and improvements for myself. Thank you Shawna, these are all constant concerning reminders for me to stay focused as I make healthy choices in daily nutrition and fitness decisions for myself from the information your blogs and e-mails sent to me regularly.
Keep up your passion and your vast knowledge and expertise you so willingly share, Shawna, as I anticipate, your personal inspirational and motivational comments you address to me.
Shawna, One person is one person and you have enlightened so many on this health and fitness journeys you chose for yourself years ago and quest to assist others with theirs.
How much has this person been able to afford to give of themselves business wise, personally, family wise and into their community… there is no need to ever question or doubt ones self when all the online and offline personal positive supports and your programs speak for themselves…you go girl… you’re the woman.. no need for changes… people just need to get with the program and do it for themselves as no one can do it for them.
Healthy Health and Fitness Blessings to Everyone,
Tammy S.
Shawna,
I’ve read three of your blog posts and I don’t get what this individual was driving at. Your blogs seem very informative and specific to me. I only regret that I been receiving your e-mails without reading your blog. I wish I had started reading your blog sooner.
Hello. I’m a fairly new subscriber (about 3 weeks) as I found your blog doing a google search. Every good blogger gets an email from a disgruntled person and some of them get to us, some of them don’t. I get alot of emails, too. I only get one from you maybe once a week and have enjoyed your tips and workouts. I have found your information to be sound and effective without all of the gimmicks.
The only slight annoyance (for me) on the site is that when I’m trying to read something, the advertisement for the free e-book pops up every 1-2 minutes.
Even when you click the “X” to get rid of it, it comes back. Sometimes, that causes me not to continue reading because I’m spending more time trying to get rid of the advertisement box just to read what you sent via email.
I got the free e-book before I even signed up for the weekly tips.
Maybe as a suggestion, perhaps this could only pop up once–that way, the reader has the option as to whether or not they want to sign up for the e-book.
Thanks for your help and I am glad that someone like you created a site and workouts for females like us over 40 as we are often overlooked and sandwiched in with other groups. 🙂
Thanks for the feedback about the pop up. I’ll work on that! I’m glad that you’re getting value from the posts. Thanks for the comment.
Tammy, you always brighten my day with your positive comments. Thanks so much!
Shawna,
I’ve read 3 of your blog posts so far and only regret that I did not start reading them sooner. They are very specific and informative. I do not get what that negative individual was driving at.
Shawna,
Don’t ever let some comments like that get to you…..obviously that person is annoyed not only at herself but at the world. She makes her choices. She can unsubscribe..simple as that.
I think you are a genuine individual who cares about others’ health and fitness. I truly enjoyed the classes I attended and plan to get back there soon. The information I receive is totally beneficial. It certainly helps me think more about my well being when it comes to fitness and health. I would not trade you for any other instructor ever…that other person…well I would let it through one ear and out the other and never think about it again. You’re great, I see the information you provide is because you care! There are not many people like you.
Sorry Shawna, but like all the other ladies I like getting any email from you as they contain tips to get me in shape and stay in shape. The person that wrote the “in question” blog is obviously according to her own comment not in shape and plans to do nothing about it. If she doesn’t like getting your mail then there is an easy solution for her (block your mail). You and us “try hards” don’t need her negative comments and she is certainly not one of the many ladies that you have helped over the years. Thanks,
Shawna,
I do enjoy getting the email reminders from you (even if they make me feel guilty that I have been on my butt too long….) They do work and get me going again. If I ever get fed up of the emails, I will just fill in the request to be removed nice and polite! But please do keep on motivating, I enjoy the blogs.
I cant believe the balls or gull of some people Shawna. Obviously this person who wrote this nasty reply is not worth you wasting your time and or energy on. I know its upseting but thats what people want when they do these things is get at you and try to bring you down. You are such an amazing woman and your constant encouragement, tips, recipes emails, and blog entries are suach a positive attribute to your dedication to all of us. I cannot thank you enough for taking me under your wing and bringing me back from a very dark place and raising above my condition and situation instead of letting it swallow me more. Hugs to you! 😉
Shawna,
I am a very regular reader. The information u impart big or small have helped me and my friends. Your mails give proper guideline,to women like me(40+)which is very rare.On other sites u get so much information related to younger croud. Your diet & workouts help a lot.I believe in living healthy life. You are doing a great job, keep me posted.
Your website is an inspiration to me. Keep up the good work! I enjoy reading everything you send. Thank You,
I found your recent post about sugar especially helpful. I printed it and posted it on the fridge to remind me why I want to avoid it. Thanks! The person who emailed you could have clicked unsubscribe, deleted your emails, or could have delivered her message in a far less rude way. It is unfortunate that she chose the response that she did. I appreciate the effort you put in to your blog.
Hi Shawna,
I hope this person deals with the issues they have in their life that are making them so bitter. And BTW, they should follow your advice so they can feel better about themselves and that can help their confidence and help them deal with life’s other issues.
We all sign up for your emails willingly, and it is also a choice not to. If they are disappointing to this person (which I don’t understand, but nonetheless), they should have just unsubscribed and taken responsibility for the unwanted emails.
I personally want to keep them and will gladly keep receiving them AND readng them.
Shawna,
I to am a very regular reader and am over 40 with different health issues that have really placed many challenges before me. I enjoy very much the information that you share and find all of what you pass along to us readers to be very beneficial. Unfortunately no one is able to satisfy everyone as each individual makes their own personal choices. For someone to not see the value of what you are sharing then they simply are just not ready to make the changes within themselves that they need to make. I do wish to say thank you very much for your continued work helping all women 40+ such as myself. You are doing a great job!
@Michelle and Camille: Thanks so much! I’ll keep it coming. Glad to hear that the info is useful to you.
Julia,
Thanks for the comment and I’m glad that sugar blog post is helping you.
Wow, that is really too bad that someone is having a bad day and took it out on you. I really look forward to the e-mails. They are great and you can delete what you feel is not for you. It looks like the majority of people feel the same way from what I am reading. This is the best program I have been on.
Thanks Val! Looks like I have some of the best ladies in my corner after all.
(From Pam:)
I suggest that you just blow it off, you seem to be successful in helping alot of people. That is just one person’s opinion. I personally haven’t committed yet to my weight loss, alot going on, but I still accept your emails.
Thanks
Pam

Hi Shawna,
No you are not bombarding me. Its my understanding that we have to sign up to receive your emails so if that is the case this person said “yes” to receiving them. All she had to do was to request being taken off the list. When I have the time to read the emails I do find them informative and if I did not want the information I would request to be taken off the list. Most people are reasonable and would go this route. This person obviously handles situations in a very different way and you shouldn’t take it personally. I find you, your classes and your information professional and useful.
On a side note Shawna I deal with hundreds of people every day at the airport and have dealt with many personalities and issues. I can assure you that there are people out there who do not recognize boundaries, lack manners and have no social conscience whatsoever and who are unreasonable no matter what you tell them. The other day somebody blamed us for a delayed flight due to bad weather. I had to advise them that if the Captain deems it unsafe to fly due to bad weather that we would delay the flight until it was safe – I actually felt it necessary to say those words. Sometimes when people don’t like what you have to say or if they are having a bad day they will vent. That day you just happened to be the target. From looking at your blog I would say that most agree that you are providing good service and good information.
Thanks for this. Wow, too bad the person requesting a flight in unsafe weather couldn’t just take off alone in a plane and face the consequences. Duh…I bet you get a ton of negativity at the airport. It’s been easier to shrug off this email after seeing the overwhelming response on the blog!
Shawna,
Obviously this person did not understand the point of your e-mails. Yes, somedays I get too many e-mails too, but that does not make it necessary for me to scream at you for sending them to me. I think they are very informative, helpful, encouraging, and guilt inducing when I haven’t been following some of the suggestions! To me, the e-mails show how much you care and want all of us to suceed! Please continue with them and ignore the few people out there that don’t appreciate your effort.
I do not feel I am being bombarded with your emails. I find that I can view what I feel is pertinent to me at my leisure. What I do not like is the pop up that keeps appearing when I am reading your info.
Thanks
I look forward to reading your emails. As Linda said before me, I believe you have to sign up to get the emails. If you do not want to receive them, simply request to be taken off the list. Some people are just miserable and cannot help but try to make others miserable. Thank you for all your advise. Looking forward to my next email.
Shawna,
Life is way to short to worry about the opinon of just one person. It’s like teaching. If the whole class does not understand then you need to look at yourself. If only one person is not getting it then it’s the problem of the person, not you. You won’t be able to please everyone in life. Focus on the people that want your help. You may never know why this person went overboard. Just send prayers in their direction and continue with the excellent job that you do.
Hi Shawna,
Affirming the same as most of the comments above, in that we all have the choice to turn off or unsubscribe or simply delete what we don’t have time for or don’t want to read.
You are truly an inspiration to us ~ to help us remain healthy and most importantly, to remember to put ourselves and our health and fitness first. So easy for many of us to put ourselves last with so much to do every day.
Thank you for being a kick-ass-fantastic-supportive-amazing and inspiring woman. Keep it up! we love you!!
Hey Shawna…ok so let me get my head around this: She signed up to receive your emails, and then she bitched because: Lo and Behold-you sent her the emails she signed up for! (Your emails do not arrive unless requested). Shawna I signed up for your emails and I enjoy them. You are unlike most other fitness people in many ways but I’ll list a few: you don’t try to sell stuff…you are giving us beneficial information just because you care; you cater to over 40 chicks, which many fitness experts could not understand the particular needs required by this sector; you ARE one of us, not just preaching at us without having LIVED our experience; you do this in the real world, not just on-line; and you’re from my country, and I’ve visited Calgary and have friends (and a step-daughter) there so I feel a connection to you in that sense. Keep the emails coming. If for any reason I were to decide not to continue them (and that will NEVER happen,BTW) I would be kind, courteous and polite in my request to discontinue them. Rudeness is NEVER a good choice. This email says way more about the sender than it does the recipient. Hold your head high Shawna. I feel bad for that unhappy girl and hope she can find happiness soon. ~kim~
Hi Shawna… I have to say I haven’t been keeping up with your blog but had to see what was going on! I really enjoy getting your emails especially regarding nutrition as it helps inspire me to try to eat better after all the hard work at boot camp, which by the way is working very well…
I love your boot camp and have seen huge results in the muscle tone in my body and for that I thank you 🙂 Don’t listen to one negative person out of all of your positive feedback 🙂 Life is much too short to be bitter… I feel sorry for her, maybe she needs a glass of wine or a percoset ha!
ha ha ha…whoever wrote this is ridiculous. obviously they are not reading your emails, or maybe their abs WOULD be toned!
I appreciate all that you do for me…before, during and after class.
keep up the good work!
I find all the info you throw at us helpful and I love getting these healthful tips from someone in the know. If I do feel like something may have been repeated I am just happy that maybe I actually learned and retained something. There are always studies and testing and new ideas…I am just really grateful that I have Shawna looking out for me and keeping me in the loop. Thanks Shawna
In my opinion I find the info to be useful, but I will admit your website is getting to commercial. At times it feels like you’re only after money.
JC,
I’m sorry you feel this way. I offer a ton of free content on my blog and my online magazine. My intent is to help you with your fitness and fat loss needs. I need to make sure you know about my products as well because these are more detailed versions of anything I have online. I would be doing you a disservice by not making you aware of this.
I’m sorry… isn’t that why people have their own businesses… to make money??? Someone has to pay the bills!! A person like Shawna who is as dedicated to us as she is deserves to make a good living out of it. I have never felt like Shawna was pushing her products on me, only making products and tools available to people who are interested in trying to get fit and lose weight. It really is simple… if you are not interested… DELETE EMAIL!
Some people just enjoy blaming others, playing victim, aventing there unhappiness and lack of gratitude for life itself. If you are simply trying to help people from a place within, then you are living your truth and need not waste a second of your precious time doubting anything that comes from this special place within and which only goal is to help others gain knowledge and the power to change from an understanding of realising how systems function and accomplish there intended goals… Keep up great work and I love your insights, experiences and the useful information you provide us with regularly. Kind regards Jason Lee
Thanks for your support Jason.
I think someone was just having a bad day. I found your information to be helpful, as I figure out how to lose this 60lbs and what I’ve been doing doesn’t work. I am considering doing your 24/7 program, just checking my options at the moment.
@Denise: All the best with your goals, I’d love to help!
I honestly feel likt this lady that e-mailed you was just in a bad mood the day she sent that. Maybe she was just feeling really upset because she was having really bad low self-esteem about her body image that day and decided to take it out on you. That’s what it seemed like to me. I think that your e-mails are GREAT! And SUPER helpful.
I THINK IT’S GREAT!!! that there is a website, like this, that caters to Women over 40!!! GOD BLESS YOU!!! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!
Thanks for joining me on my blog Sharon!
I’ve only been subscribed to your blog for a few days but I don’t feel overwhelmed by the emails. My thoughts are that the person who sent the negative email is too lazy to click on a few links to read what you’ve blogged, is expecting a miracle through email that doesn’t involve life changes or movement, and is feeling badly about being lazy so they lashed out at you. Don’t let this get you down. You are giving of your time, yourself and your heart to help other women out here who DO care about the lives and WANT to make the changes. Thank you!
Thanks Jennette! I hope you’ll continue to find my blogs and emails helpful.
