I’ve been talking a lot about metabolism on the blog. I can’t tell you how important it is to keep your metabolism running high.
There are two ways to keep your metabolism up even while you’re losing fat: build lean muscle mass, and maintain a healthy diet.
Two of my mentors and top in the fitness and fat loss field tell you what they think is your best bet for done for you programs in this interview:
Joel Marion and Craig Ballentyne Interview from Shawna Kaminski on Vimeo.
If you’re looking for ‘done for you’ tried and true programs, then it’s worth while to check out these:

Hey Shawna,
I love all your great tips and workout ideas, but I will be honest, I hate the word “cheat” when it comes to food. I try to instill in my clients that they can eat their favorite foods in moderation along with good portion control. Using the word “cheat” makes it seem like they are doing something bad. With so many people, esp woman, being closet eaters and punishers, I like to teach them they don’t have to hide to eat something pleasing. I have found that even the word “reward” can end up having negative effects. Before I got in shape, I used food as a crutch so I am, obviously, very sensative about the subject. Sorry to rant. Have a great weekend. You rock!

I use Craig’s workouts alot and i can say that they do work….there is such a variety of workouts your muscles will never get bored. therefore problems with weight loss plateaus go away. on another note….personally i had noticed since late Dec last year that i was not getting the gains from my workouts….i changed my diet radically to only include (real food) cut out coffee and sugars, even those artifically ones…i started feeling better and was losing the dreaded belly fat due to Craigs workouts….but around April i started feeling not myself and was not getting the muscle gain that i should of with my workouts….i was lifting weights and actually workoing out 5 to 6 times a week with HITT 3 to 4 timess is a week…went to the doctors and a blood test showed decreased testosterone….this a HUGE issue with women over 40….I am 41, but had a tubal(does not help the testosterone decreasing factor) so…..i am starting testosterone thearapy…..i do not promote taking meds for nothing, but if this works for my well being and help me make the muscle gains and fat loss (as a well as loss of libido) then i am all for it…..i have started to perk up a bit and feel a little more lively…i hope to be back to my old self within 4 more weeks….i will keep you posted on my progress…i just thought i would tell you about this , bc sometimes no matter how hard we work at it,we do not get the benefits we could.
Thanks so much for sharing your story Lisa. Please keep us posted!
Yep, gotta agree with you on this one Cary. And feel free to use the blog as a safe place to ‘rant’! The name of the product that Joel has made has the word ‘cheat’ in it, so it may be something that you bring up with him (?).
