I know I’m gonna upset you with what I’m gonna say…but I’m gonna say it anyway…
“Don’t be surprised that you have a muffin top and no energy if you feed your body junk.”
It’s not brain surgery. If you want to feel good, you can’t eat like these ladies in this picture. You can’t really see, but they each had a dessert that was no less than the size of my head. Now maybe this was a special occasion, and I know this is sort of mean of me, but I’m using this to get my point across. Maybe this was a special occasion or something, but never the less, on what planet would it be right for me to eat this much sugar and fat and expect to feel good and energized? Just sayin…
So, the message that I really want to convey today is this…enjoy treats in moderation.
The moment that I realized that there would always be good tasting food available to me, was the moment I learned to eat moderately. It’s a simple concept. If there is a spectacular cake in front of me that I absolutely love, I don’t need to eat the entire thing at one sitting. I could always make or buy another cake. Why would I want to store that cake in my waist line or butt anyway? Isn’t that what Tupperware is for?
But I SHOULD enjoy some of it, just in a moderate amount. I should savor every bite so I don’t feel deprived. (And maybe I will deprive myself sometimes, I’m not gonna have cake every day, I’ll save having cake on a special occasion.)
That’s my secret. I know I can always have a treat. I never feel deprived and I still feel great and I won’t blow my fitness and fat loss goals.
What do you think? Am I way off base here? Let me know what you think…
Amen sister!!!
I work with a lot of women that eat so much sugar (in various forms) and then they wonder why the minimal exercise they do isn’t working!!!
I just want to scream sometimes!! don’t complain to me if what you are doing clearly isn’t working!!!
Thank you for actually coming out and saying the obvious again!!
Thanks Lisa. Working out isn’t a license to eat anything. In fact, it’s reason to eat better!
You are totally right! I don’t know how many times I have worked out and had something to eat during the day that I know I shouldn’t and then feel “well that workout was for nothing” and that feeling sucks. If I would have stuck to my plan and had something with less bad stuff I would have felt much better and wouldn’t beat myself up over it.
And this goes both ways, if you do stick to your plan – eat smart and healthy – then when that special occasion comes along, you can have that cake and feel good about eating it too!
Judy, everyone makes the mistake of not eating nutritionally supportive foods at times. Diet is a day to day journey, it’s when you make the better choice more often than not that makes the difference over time. I’m glad you’ve put nutrition and training together and know that they go hand in hand for best and lasting results! (btw, congrats on your daughter’s wedding this summer, hope it went well!)
It seems that if I’m exercising, then I’m eating right and vice versa. The trouble is when I’m not eating right and not exercising either! It’s so hard to get back on the wagon! Thanks for the daily notes. They do help tovremind me of what I should be doing. Now who is coming to get me off of the couch!
You’re totally right Dawn, that’s how it is with most people: when you’re exercising, diet is good and when you miss your workout (when nutrition is especially important), nutrition is out the window. And I’ll keep nagging you from this blog to get off the couch! Sounds like it’s working!
What I don’t understand is why it is such a struggle for me to eat well and to get out of bed to work out when both things make my day so much better!!!! Should these things not be what you look forward to and salivate for when you get such terrific results? Just doesn’t make sense………..
However…not one to succumb, I will be there tomorrow AM!!!!
@Sue, You’re not alone…it’s an every day battle to eat well and exercise, even when we know we feel our best doing those things! I know for me I usually look forward to my workouts and good food, but there are times when the couch looks awfully good too. Once I get moving, I know I’ve made the right choice.
Lisa says: Nope no need for sorry. I admire people who speak from the heart! Keep it coming!
(BTW Lisa….thank you!)
Very well said!….I’m on vacation (family reunion) and ive eaten healthy only twice with no excercise…..Grrrrrr! Next Monday ill startmy 3 day shakeology cleanse and then back at it!
@ Susan – don’t wait till Monday! Try to make as healthy a choice as you can starting now! Good luck.
