Can you do a pull up? Not even many men can do a pull up. Wouldn’t it be super impressive to be able to hit the play ground with your kids and knock off a few?
The key to learning how to do a pull up is to work the ‘eccentric’ contraction. That is, help yourself on the way up and take your weight on the way down. This is counter to what most people would think. The eccentric, or lengthening portion of any movement is the strengthening phase. It’s also the portion of the movement that causes the most muscle soreness. You need to be careful when doing these, but this is a great way to start to build up the strength to be able to do a pull up on your own.
