Are you looking for a simple way to boost your metabolism?
You may be surprised to learn that one of the simplest ways to boost your metabolism involves a mirror.
It’s actually not the mirror that you’re thinking of.
What I’m talking about to boost your metabolism is that you want your eating to mirror the natural cycles of your metabolism.
Let’s look at one of my clients; I’ll call her Betty. She’s a busy woman just like you. She doesn’t have time for breakfast because she’s rushing her kids out the door to school and then rushes off to work herself. She manages to make a healthy bagged lunch for her kids, but somehow manages to skip making one for herself. She grabs a coffee on the way into work. She eats a salad she picks up at her desk and another coffee and cookie off the staff room table mid afternoon. She’s starving after work and munches on crackers as she prepares dinner for her family. She eats dinner but is still hungry before bed so she loads up on empty calories.
Sound familiar?
Does your day look like this?
-
Breakfast is the smallest meal of the day, if eaten at all.
-
Lunch is a decent, moderate sized meal.
-
Dinner is the largest meal of the day, often times eaten late at night and chased with nutritionally deficit snacks.
What does this do to boost your metabolism?
Nothing at best, further tanks it at worst.
Let’s look at how your metabolism actually works and pair that with how your body processes carbohydrates…
Metabolism is highest in the morning, as well carbohydrate tolerance is also at its highest when you first wake up. This just means that your body is best able to handle a high carbohydrate intake in the morning hours. Your body will use these calories for energy rather than save them for a rainy day by putting them into storage (fat!).
You can actually get away with a higher carb, higher calorie meal in the morning. In fact, this meal will actually stoke your metabolism to burn more calories throughout the day.
Do you want to eat a big breakfast? Go right ahead; it will benefit both your body and metabolism greatly.
On the other hand, dinner should be the smallest meal of the day. You should also limit carbohydrate intake later in the day because carbohydrate tolerance is at its lowest point in the evening.
Here’s how to boost your metabolism by mirroring both your metabolism and carbohydrate tolerance for best fat loss results:
Breakfast – Eat a large sized meal with higher carb intake
Lunch – Eat a moderate size meal and moderate carb intake
Dinner – Eat a light sized meal with lower carb intake
Don’t forget to add 2-3 small snacks between meals. If you follow these guidelines, you’ll boost your metabolism; you’ll be able to eat more total daily calories while losing body fat faster.
