Is coffee your ‘go to’ in the morning?
Do you need an instant boost of energy?
I’ll be the first to admit that I love coffee. To me, I’m not sure if I love the little buzz I get from the coffee, or the fact that I have coffee right before I train. I think I probably associate the good feeling of training with the coffee. So, coffee is just a feel good food for me (in moderation), I have a (big!) cup of java a day.
The bad news is that coffee is has caffeine that we sometimes count on for an energy boost. Did you know that caffeine is actually not good for energy? It stimulates your adrenals which will only lead to a crash. It also plays havoc with your blood sugars.
The best prolonged energy boost and good nutrition actually comes from green whole foods. Green foods are also a high source of alkalinity which in short is so great for your blood.
As you can see, my friend Yuri is a big juicing fan. Here are some of his thoughts on juicing:
The only down side of green juices is that the juicing can be a bit time consuming. It will probably take you 30 minutes to make two litters of juice that you can drink all day long. And that’s the upside, you juice once, drink all day. A 30 minute investment seems like a good trade off for super energy the whole day.
Juicing does remove some of the fiber as opposed to when you make a smoothie, the fruit and vegetable fiber remains.. It’s easy to replace that missed fiber with something as simple as an apple. Obviously fiber is a necessity for healthy digestion.
You can add what ever you like to your juicer: parsley, celery, kale, ginger, cucumber, lemon, and even try carrots or apples to sweeten the juice a bit.
The key to avoid having your green juices from being bland is to add a bit of lemon.
Juicing is a way to provide powerful nutrition and pure energy to your day. Enjoy!
